About The Golden Index
The Golden Index publishes independent measures of labor and consumer activity. Each tracker follows a single, narrowly defined signal over time so that it can be read at a glance and compared across windows.
Trackers
A tracker is a single time series published at hourly, daily, and monthly resolution with a consistent set of summary statistics: total, average, peak, low, period change, and volatility. Every tracker page offers the same range controls and a CSV export of the selected window.
The first published tracker is McDonald's U.S. Job Applications, which measures application volume across McDonald's U.S. job pages.
Definitions
- Moving average
- A trailing simple average whose window scales with the number of intervals in the selected range.
- Period change
- The percentage difference between the final and first interval in the selected range.
- Volatility
- The coefficient of variation: the standard deviation of interval values divided by their mean.
